The late Eng. Lambert Ndiwaita
The Ministerial Advisory Board (MAB),
Management and Staff of Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) regret to
announce the untimely death of the TAA Board Chairman, Eng. Lambert W.
Ndiwaita who passed away at Nairobi Hospital, Kenya on 20th August,
2015. He will be buried at his home village in Bukoba on 25th August,
2015.
Eng. Lambert Ndiwaita (64) was one the
prominent aviation experts who contributed significantly in the
development of aviation industry. He started his carrier in 1971 when he
joined the then Ministry of Works as an Assistant Executive Engineer
and later rose to the position of Chief Engineer for Roads and
Aerodromes. In 1993, he worked as an expatriate with the Department of
Civil Aviation in Botswana where he assisted in the establishment of an
Aerodrome Maintenance section. Later, in 1994 he joined the
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as Technical Officer
(later Regional Officer) for Aerodromes & Ground Aids (AGA) at the
ICAO's, Eastern & Southern Africa Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya
until his retirement in 2014 . While at ICAO regional office, his main
duties were to insure uniform implementation of ICAO Standards and
recommended practice in the fields of Aerodromes and Ground Aids in 23
States accredited to the ESAF Regional Office. He was also responsible
for the uniform implementation of the International Civil Aviation
Security Standards and for coordinating technical cooperation activities
to assist States with difficulties in standards implementation.
Eng. Lambert Ndiwaita pursued his Civil
Engineering undergraduate training at the University of Nairobi where he
obtained his Bachelor of Science. In 1978, he pursued Postgraduate
studies of Master of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of
California, Berkley, USA where he specialized in Aerodrome Engineering
& Maintenance after which he returned to serve in the then Ministry
of Works'; Roads & Aerodromes Department.
He will be remembered for his dedication
and expertise in the development of aviation sector especially in
upgrading and expansion of Mwanza, Tabora, Kigoma, Songwe, Mafia,
Mpanda, Bukoba and Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA).
